10. Genus Thaumatodryinus R. Perkins, 1905
Thaumatodryinus R. Perkins 1905: 58 ; Kieffer in Kieffer & Marshall 1906: 490; Kieffer 1914b: 16; Krombein 1952: 97; Krombein 1958: 98; Krombein 1979: 1243; Olmi 1984: 683; Olmi 1993b: 61; He & Xu 2002: 244; Virla & Olmi 2008: 370; Xu et al. 2009b: 19; Moya-Raygoza & Olmi 2010: 98.
Type species. Thaumatodryinus koebelei R. Perkins, 1905 , by original designation.
Diagnosis. Female ( Plates 69E View PLATE 69 , 73A View PLATE 73 ): fully winged ( Plate 73A View PLATE 73 ); mandible with four teeth progressing larger from anterior one to posterior (as in plate 3D); occipital carina complete; palpal formula 6/3; antenna without rhinaria, with tufts of long hairs on segments 5–10 (segment 10 with two tufts) ( Plates 69E View PLATE 69 , 70A View PLATE 70 , 73A View PLATE 73 ); pronotal tubercle reaching tegula; fore wing with three cells enclosed by pigmented veins (costal, median and submedian) ( Plates 69E View PLATE 69 , 73A View PLATE 73 ); usually in fore wing also first brachial cell is completely enclosed by pigmented veins (see plate 2F in Olmi, 1984); protarsus chelate ( Plates 69E View PLATE 69 , 73A View PLATE 73 ); chela with rudimentary claw ( Plate 73B View PLATE 73 ); tibial spurs 1/1/2. Male ( Plate 72A View PLATE 72 ): fully winged ( Plate 72A View PLATE 72 ); occipital carina complete; mandible usually with four teeth progressing larger from anterior one to posterior (as in plate 3D); occasionally mandible with four teeth differently long; never quadridentate mandible with an intermediate rudimentary tooth; palpal formula 6/3; notauli always separated at posterior margin of scutum; minimum distance between notauli as long as, or longer than greatest breadth of posterior ocelli; fore wing with three cells enclosed by pigmented veins (costal, median and submedian) ( Plate 72A View PLATE 72 ); fore wing with metacarpus as long as, or longer than pterostigma ( Plate 72A View PLATE 72 ); paramere without inner branch wrapping penis ( Plate 71A – C View PLATE 71 ); tibial spurs 1/1/2.
Distribution. Worldwide, except Palaearctic. Brues (1923, 1933) described three fossil species of Thaumatodryinus from Baltic amber; they are now attributed to Harpactosphecion Haupt 1944 .
Hosts. Flatidae ( Guglielmino & Olmi, 1997) .
World species. Thirty species are known, eleven in the Oriental region.
