Chaeropodidae Gill 1872 View in CoL

Chaeropodidae Gill 1872 View in CoL , Smithson. Misc. Coll., 11: 26.

Synonyms: Chaeropini Szalay 1994 .

Genera: 1 genus with 1 species:

Genus Chaeropus Ogilby 1838 (1 species)

Discussion: A subfamily of Peramelidae according to McKenna and Bell (1997), who included Thylacomyidae as a synonym. Molecular data ( Westerman et al., 1999, 2001) do not support this arrangement, but indicate that Chaeropus is the sister-group of all other Peramelemorphia , so it is given family rank here.
