Type Locality: South Africa, Northwest Prov., Maquassi, Klipkuil.
Vernacular Names: Makwassie Musk Shrew.
Synonyms: Crocidura malani Lundholm 1955 .
Distribution: Mpumalanga Prov. and Northwest Prov. ( South Africa); Nyamaziwa Falls, and Matopo Hills ( Zimbabwe).
Conservation: IUCN – Lower Risk (lc).
Discussion: Includes malani ; and may be related to pitmani ; see Meester (1963) and Meester et al. (1986). Geometrics of the mandible distinguish this species and the similar cyanea and silacea ( Taylor and Contrafatto, 1997) .
