5. Euconnus araguai Franz View in CoL

Euconnus (Napochus) araguai Lhoste 1953:127 View in CoL , figs. 10–12.

Euconnus araguaensis O’Keefe View in CoL , new name, for E. araguai Franz 1989:49 View in CoL , fig. 86. Etymology : The name was derived from Aragua, the state of Venezuela in which the type series was collected.

From the original descriptions it is unclear whether or not these two species are the same. The figures of the aedeagi do not help because Lhoste’s drawing ( Lhoste 1953:128, fig. 12) is a dorsal view of the apex, while Franz’ drawing ( Franz 1989:59, fig. 86) is a lateral view. I could not find any characters in the descriptions that would conclusively prove these were two different species. In any case, because there are two different authors, E. araguai Franz View in CoL is a junior homonym of E. araguai Lhoste View in CoL , and I propose E. araguaensis View in CoL as a replacement name for E. araguai Franz, 1989 View in CoL .
