Type species: Halisaurus platyspondylus Marsh, 1869 , Maastrichtian of New Jersey, USA ( Holmes & Sues, 2000).

Referred species: Halisaurus ortliebi ( Dollo, 1889) , Maastrichtian of Belgium ( Lingham-Soliar, 1996).
