Lectotype (Godfrey in J. Elisha Mitchell Sci. Soc. 68: 262. 1952): Clayton 159 (BM).

Current name: Pluchea foetida (L.) DC. ( Asteraceae ).

Note: There are two Clayton sheets extant, "Clayton 159" and "Clayton 159/451" (both BM). The type designation does not distinguish between these sheets, but as they appear to be part of a single gathering, Art. 9.15 applies and the typification is effective. At some point, it may be desirable to restrict this choice to one or other sheet.
