Systolederus Bolivar, 1887 View in CoL , 31: 194; Rehn,1904, 56: 662; Hancock, 1907, 48: 33; Kirby, 1914, 44; Willemse, 1930. 73: 26; Günther, 1939, 160; Shishodia. 1991, 140: 63; Jiang & Zheng, 1998, 302; Liang & Zheng, 1998, 98; Zheng, 2005, 115; Deng, Zheng & Wei. 2007, 111; Zheng, 2013, 29(12): 3; Deng, 2016, 104.
Type species: Systolederus haani Bolivar, 1887 by subsequent designation of Rehn, 1904, 56: 662.
Redescription. Body size small, elongated and slender. Head and eyes distinctly exerted above upper level of pronotum. Vertex strongly contracted forward drawing the eyes very near together, median carina distinct; width of vertex 0.2–0.5 times width of an eye. Frontal ridge straight or forming an obtuse round shape between vertex and median ocellus in profile. In frontal view, frontal carinae diverged above lateral ocelli, width of longitudinal furrow narrower than or equal to wider than width of first antennal segment. Antenna filiform, inserted between or below lower margins of eyes. Lateral ocelli placed on middle of or slightly below middle of anterior margins of eyes.
Disc of pronotum flat and smooth, with numerous small shining granules; in dorsal view, anterior margin of pronotum truncate and median carina entire; lateral carinae of prozona short and parallel; posterior process of pronotum narrow, long cone-shaped, apex surpassing apex of hind femur. Lateral lobes of pronotum produced outwards or little turned downwards, posterior angles truncate behind; posterior margin of each lateral lobe of pronotum with two concavities. Tegmina ovate. Hind wings developed, reaching or surpassing apex of posterior process of pronotum. Fore and mid femora simple; hind femur very finely serrulate. Hind tibia slightly enlarged from proximal to distal part, outer side and inner side with spines or absent; length of first segment of hind tarsi longer than or equal to third.
Differential diagnosis. The morphology of Systolederus is quite homogeneous, and this genus can be easily distinguished from other genera of the subfamily Metrodorinae by vertex very strongly narrowed toward the front drawing the eyes together and in front forming a triangular shape.
