Leptachirus triramus Randall View in CoL
Tailed Sole
This species was previously referred to as Aseraggodes klunzingeri (Weber) ( Allen 1975, Storey 2003), which according to Randall (2007) is actually a complex of several closely related species. Aseraggodes klunzingeri sensu stricto (now placed in Leptachirus ), is confined to the Merauke region of Papua Province, Indonesia, and the Kimberley species (also ranging to the Daly River, Northern Territory) is referrable to L. triramus . There are very few records of this species from the Kimberley; the few that exist suggest it is most commonly encountered within the Ord River system ( Fig. 51) ( Randall 2007). There is also an additional record of what is most likely this species from Crystal Creek near the mouth of the Lawley River. Another specimen reported as A. klunzingeri from the Prince Regent River at the base of King Cascade by Allen (1975) is Pardachirus rautheri (S. Morrison, Western Australian Museum, pers. com.).
