Based on present knowledge, Kimberleyeleotris hutchinsi , along with K. notata , is the most restricted freshwater fish species in the Kimberley, and is known only from the Mitchell River system immediately upstream of Mitchell Falls and downstream of Mertens Falls ( Fig. 45) where the species was first collected by Hutchins (1981). It was also collected above Mitchell Falls by Allen and Allen (1998) where it was encountered on rocks adjacent to small cascades and rapids.
