Anillinus valentinei (Jeannel) . Synonymized by Barr 1995:242.

Holotype examined. Type specimen badly damaged, represented by only the thorax, abdomen without internal contents, and four legs (second and third pairs).

Barr correctly placed Troglanillus in synonymy with Anillinus ( Barr 1995) . The presence of the spines in the internal sac of median lobe was the feature cited by Jeannel (1963 b) to justify placing the species in a separate genus. But these spines occur in several different groups of Anillinus apparently independently derived. Thus, the presence of spines is insufficient reason for establishing a new taxon above the species level unless more careful phylogenetic analysis suggests otherwise.

Distribution. According to Barr (1995:243) this species is ‘‘distributed throughout the caves of northeast Alabama, east of the Wills Creek anticline’’ ( Fig. 41).

Habitat. This species is a true troglobite as far as known.
