Type Locality: Indonesia, W Java.

Vernacular Names: Thick-tailed Shrew.

Subspecies: :

Subspecies Crocidura brunnea subsp. brunnea Jentink 1888

Subspecies Crocidura brunnea subsp. pudjonica Sody 1936

Distribution: Java and Bali.

Discussion: Formerly included in C. fuliginosa (see Jenkins, 1982). Revised by Ruedi (1995), who considered brunnea and pudjonica as distinct subspecies. Bali records by Kitchener et al. (1994 a). Karyotype has 2n = 38, FN = 56 ( Ruedi and Vogel, 1995).
