Type Locality: "Namaqualand and the country on both sides of the Orange river" [ Namibia]; fixed by Shortridge (1942) as "Port Nolloth, Little Namaqualand." .
Vernacular Names: Cape Fox.
Synonyms: Vulpes caama (C. E. H. Smith 1839) ; Vulpes hodsoni (Noack 1910) ; Vulpes variegatoides (Layard 1861) .
Distribution: S Angola, Botswana, Namibia, South Africa.
Conservation: IUCN – Lower Risk (lc).
