Type Locality: "South America". This is clearly in error and Hollister (1918) fixed the type locality as " Cape of Good Hope". [ South Africa].

Synonyms: Ictonyx striatus subsp. capensis (A. Smith 1826) ; Ictonyx striatus subsp. mustelina (Wagner 1841) ; Ictonyx striatus subsp. pondoensis Roberts 1924 ; Ictonyx striatus subsp. variegata (Lesson 1842) .
