Type Locality: Aru Isl.
Vernacular Names: Wallace's Dasyure.
Synonyms: Myoictis pilicauda (Peters and Doria 1881) .
Distribution: Southern New Guinea and Aru Isls ( Indonesia).
Conservation: Unknown, but rare.
Discussion: Usually considered a subspecies of M. melas , but separated as a species by Archer (1982:417), and molecular data suggest that they may have separated several million years ago ( Krajewski et al., 1997 a).
