Habitat and phenology: —Epiphyte on tree branches or trunks, at elevation of 1000–1300 m a.s.l., often along streams. Flowers in May–June.

Distribution: —Endemic to southern Vietnam (Dak Lak and Lam Dong provinces).

Conservation assessment: —The species is endemic to Vietnam and, is so far known only from six sites, all of which are facing a decline in the quality of habitat as a result of logging, and hence, these sites are considered as unique locations.Plants are also known to be collected for horticulture purposes. The extent of occurrence and area of occupancy are calculated as 239 km 2 and 24 km 2, respectively. The number of mature individuals and the generation length of the species are not known. Accordingly, this species can be assessed as vulnerable, VU B1ab(iii,v)+B2ab(iii,v).

Note: —This species is sometimes considered as a synonym of B. longiflorum . However, B. annamense clearly differs from B. longiflorum in the petals hardly hairy along the margin of the apical half (vs. margin fimbriate throughout), the surface of the petals is smooth to slightly papillose (vs. surface prominently warty or colliculate), and the lip with auricles, hairy along the margin at the base (vs. lip glabrous, without auricles).
