Pedionis (Pedionis) dentiforma View in CoL sp. nov.

( Figs. 1 View FIGURE 1. P E–H, 3)

Description. Length. Male 4.0 mm.

Coloration. Body pale brown with numerous dark brown spots ( Figs. 1 View FIGURE 1. P G, H). Ocelli white, located between eyes; eyes pale brown. Anteclypeus dark brown in apical half ( Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1. P F). Pronotum darker than head. Scutellum with basolateral triangles dark orange ( Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1. P E). Forewing brown, venation dark brown with white spots ( Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1. P H).

Morphology. Body comparatively stout and small. Face longer than wide, Clypeus extruded. Hind tibial spinulation R1 11, R2 8, R3 5.

Male genitalia. Pygofer ( Fig. 3 View FIGURE 3 A) broad and without caudo-dorsal spine usually presented in Pedionis , setae on caudoventral margin relatively stout. Subgenital plate slender with many setae, several especially long at the end. Style ( Fig. 3 View FIGURE 3 G) parallel-margined and angled on apical third, apex obliquely truncate, producing a narrow truncate process on dorsal margin. Connective ( Figs. 3 View FIGURE 3 B, C) similar to that of P. (P.) tribrachyblasta sp. nov. but have much slender shaft. Aedeagal shaft ( Figs. 3 View FIGURE 3 D, E) with pair of triangular sharp projections apically and pair of small spinelike processes subapically. Dorsal connective ( Fig. 3 View FIGURE 3 F) processes slender, distal part longer with minutely marginal serrations.

Female. Unknown.

Distribution. China: Sichuan (Mt. Emei)

Material examined. Holotype. Male, China: Sichuan Province, Mt. Emei, 14 July 2005, coll. Lu Lin. Paratype: 1 male, same data as holotype.

Remarks. Pedionis dentiforma resembles P. spinata Zhang & Viraktamath internally, but differs in having more caudo-ventral setae; longer apical setae on subgenital plates; and the apical processes of the aedeagus much wider and sharper. It also has obvious differences externally: lighter colouration; much clearer striations and spots. Etymology. The specific epithet is derived from the Latin word “dentiformis”, referring to the contrastingly colored, tusklike basal triangles of the scutellum.
