Phenacoccus arthrophyti Archangelskaya View in CoL
( Fig. 25 View FIGURE 25 )
Phenacoccus arthrophyti Archangelskaya, 1930: 78 .
DIAGNOSIS. Body of female oval to broadly oval. Antennae normally 8 segmented. Legs well developed; translucent pores absent from hind legs; claw with a small but distinct denticle. Anal lobes moderately developed. Cerarii numbering 2 pairs. Anal lobe cerarii with 2 small conical to lanceolate setae, plus 1 small seta and 6–8 trilocular pores; penultimate cerarii each with 2 setae and a few trilocular pores. Circulus absent. Ostioles well developed. Dorsal multilocular disc pores present across abdominal segments V–VII, plus 1 on margins of segments III and IV; also in transverse rows on venter along posterior edges of abdominal segments IV–VII, and posterior to vulva. Ventral quinquelocular pores present medially on areas around mouthparts, thorax and anterior abdominal segments. Dorsal oral collar ducts of 1 size, in a single row across thorax and abdominal segments, except segment VIII; also on venter, of 2 sizes: large type similar to those on dorsum, present on thorax and laterally on abdominal segments, and small type distributed medially on posterior abdominal segments.
DISTRIBUTION. Palaearctic: Iran, Mongolia, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan. In Iran, P. arthrophyti occurs in Yazd. Previously it was known only on Chenopodiaceae (Ben-Dov et al., 2012) , and so Haloxylon sp. ( Amaranthaceae ) is a new host record.
MATERIAL EXAMINED. Yazd: Yazd, 4 adult Ƥ, on Haloxylon sp. ( Amaranthaceae ), 1.ix.2001 (Shams).
COMMENTS. This mealybug lives as an inquiline insect in the galls induced by Caillardia (Lepidoptera) on Haloxylon spp. (Danzig, 1968, 1969).
