Locus typicus: Canada, British Columbia, Victoria.
Etymology: The name refers to the country where this species was found for the first time. An adjective in nominative singular.
Shortened description: Medium-sized to large (ca. 250–450 μm, typically 300–400 μm). Body appendage configuration A-Cd- Dd ( Fig. 4C View FIGURE 4 ), Cd cirrous, Dd spiniform. See E. blumi above for the remaining characters.
Phylogenetic position: Echiniscus canadensis is firmly located at the base of the Echiniscus phylogenetic tree (Figs 1–2).
