Lectotype (designated by Davis 1982: 337):— UKRAINE. Ex Tauria. Circa Castelli Inkermen ruinas lecta a. 1804 ( LE 01009730 !).
Nomenclatural notes:—Although Marschall von Bieberstein´s herbarium is at LE, he did not specify any herbarium in the protologue and the possibility exists of duplicates of his collection of this being preserved in other herbaria; if so, Davis (1982: 337) statement (“[Crimea] in Tauriae rupestribus, circa ruinas castelli Inkiermen (holo. LE)”) would be an effective lectotypification under Art. 9.9, but if no other specimen (Art. 8.2, ICN) exists, it would indeed be the holotype (see Melnikov (2015: 110) for illustration of the type specimen).

Taxonomic notes:—When citing this name at the rank of species ( Bräuchler et al. 2008b) the authors were not aware of the description of the basionym at the rank of a variety. The synonymy provided here is based on Boissier´s statement that it grows together with the typical variety, but remains provisional until a lectotype has been designated and the revision of the Clinopodium serpyllifolium View in CoL group is completed.
