Distribution: ME to south FL to west TX to southern MN. Kentucky records are scattered throughout the state except for the two Mississippi ecoregions (Map 052).

Comments: This species has become numerous enough at times to cause serious damage to timber ( Linsley 1963). Attracted to lights—a series of 27 specimens was collected by blacklight on one night in the Red River Gorge (Powell County).
