Taxonomic note: This species is listed under the genus Sternidius in identification manuals published before 2008 (e.g., Lingafelter 2007; Linsley & Chemsak 1995; Yanega 1996) when Bousquet (2008) assigned it to Astyleiopus .

Distribution: NS to GA to AZ to AB. Kentucky collections of this common and wide-ranging species are nearly statewide (only absent from the two Mississippi ecoregions; Map 013).

Chemical lures: (E / Z)-fuscumol acetate, and a blend of fuscumol + acetate as attractants with the addition of ethanol as an enhancer ( Hanks & Millar 2013)

Comments: Attracted to lights and fermenting sugar.
