TYPE LOCALITY: Brazil, Parâ, West bank of Rio Tapajôs, Parque Nacional de Amazônia .

DISTRIBUTION: South of the Amazon in SW Brazil; SW Peru; E Bolivia.

STATUS: CITES - Appendix II.

SYNONYMS: vanzolinii .

COMMENTS: Includes some specimens identified by Hershkovitz (1979) as P. hirsuta . May prove to be a subspecies of P. monachus ( Hershkovitz, 1987d) .
