Type Locality: "Pajo, Sumatra " [Sumatra, Indonesia]. Restricted by Robinson and Kloss (1918 b:37) to Pajokombo, Padang Highlands, West Sumatra .
Vernacular Names: Niobe Ground Squirrel.
Subspecies: :
Subspecies Lariscus niobe subsp. niobe Thomas 1898
Subspecies Lariscus niobe subsp. vulcanus Kloss 1921
Distribution: Mountains of Sumatra, and Java (Idjen Mtns).
Conservation: IUCN – Lower Risk (nt).
Discussion: Given full specific status by Moore (1959); but see Chasen (1940:145). The subspecies vulcanus is restricted to Java.
