Thelcticopis Karsch, 1884 View in CoL
(type species R. vasta L. Koch, 1873 ). Simon 1897a: 68, 72 (= Thelcticopis View in CoL , nom. preocc.).
Themeropis L. Koch, 1875: 699 View in CoL
(type species T. severa L. Koch, 1875 ). Karsch 1884: 65 (replacement name Thelcticopis View in CoL , nom. preocc.).
(type species S. picta Thorell, 1887 View in CoL ). Jäger 2005: 57 (syn.).
(type species M. fasciata Thorell, 1897 View in CoL ). Deeleman-Reinhold 2001: 401 View Cited Treatment , 505, sub. Seramba ).
Type species. Thelcticopis severa (L. Koch, 1875) View in CoL , by subsequent designation ( Simon 1897a: 72).
Composition. Fifty-two species ( World Spider Catalog 2024).
Distribution. Australia, South, East and Southeast Asia ( World Spider Catalog 2024), African species are noncongeneric (see introduction).
Note. The present paper is considered a first step of a larger revision of Thelcticopis . As long as not all nominal species have been examined from the entire distribution range, no diagnostic characters can be given. Several species now listed under this genus will eventually be transferred to other genera. Species from Africa are considered misplaced ( Jäger & Kunz 2005; PJ pers. obs.), and should be transferred from Thelcticopis after a thorough revision of other, particularly African, material.
