Discussion: Senior synonyms of Phacochoerus F. Cuvier, 1826 and most junior synonyms have been supressed by Opinion 466 ( International Commission on Zoological Nomenclature, 1957 g), which, together with Morrison-Scott (1955) should be consulted for dates and authors cited here. Parapatric distribution of species of Phacochoerus in the Horn of Africa reviewed by d'Huart and Grubb (2001); genetic divergence in these species described by Randi et al. (2002).
