Type-locality. Amérique méridionale, restricted by Guichenot (1855) to Sarayacu, Peru.

Distribution and habitat. Anolis transversalis is endemic to western Amazonia, with its eastern distribution delimited by Negro, Madeira and Aripuanã Rivers, occurring in Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru ( Fig. 8 View FIGURE 8 ). Langstroth (2005) reported the species to Bolivia. In Brazil, it is known from the states of Amazonas, Acre, and Rondônia. Anolis transversalis is arboreal and diurnal, inhabits primary terra firme forest, with preference for shaded areas, where it is found on the upper layers of the forest, on tree trunks and high branches of large trees ( Duellman 1978; Vitt et al. 2003a).
