In Brazil, it is known only from the Japurá river basin, state of Amazonas. Anolis scypheus is predominantly terrestrial and diurnal, inhabits primary and secondary forests, where it is usually found on the ground, and occasionally on lower vegetation (tree trunks, fallen trunks, lianas and shrubs), lower than 2 meters high ( Duellman 1978; Vitt & Zani 1996b,c; Whitworth & Beirne 2011).
