Anolis dissimilis Williams, 1965

Type-locality. Itahuania, upper Rio Madre de Dios, Madre de Dios Province, Peru.

Pertinent taxonomic references. Williams (1965, 1974), Freitas et al. (2013), Prates et al. (2014).

Distribution and habitat. Anolis dissimilis is endemic to southwestern Amazonia, restricted to the upper Purus and Madre de Dios river basins, occurring in Brazil and Peru ( Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 ). In Brazil, it is only known from the state of Acre. It is arboreal and diurnal, inhabits areas with relatively low forest, with bamboo dominated understory ( Guadua ssp.) ( Icochea et al. 2001; Melo-Sampaio et al. 2013). Freitas et al. (2013) found one individual on guava tree trunk (about 4 m height) in secondary forest. Anolis dissimilis is rarely observed, which may indicate low density and/or reclusive habits.
