Distribution and habitat. Uranoscodon superciliosus is widespread, and endemic to Amazonia, occurring in Brazil, French Guiana, Suriname, Venezuela, Colombia, and Bolivia ( Fig. 24 View FIGURE 24 ). In Brazil it is known from the states of Amapá, Pará, Maranhão, Tocantins, Amazonas, Roraima, Acre, Rondônia, and Mato Grosso. Uranoscodon superciliosus is arboreal and diurnal, inhabits primary and secondary forests, varzea and igapo, where it is usually found along creeks and rivers, on trunks and branches of trees, and vines ( Crump 1971; Hoogmoed 1973; Cunha et al. 1985; Nascimento et al. 1988; Ávila-Pires 1995; Vitt et al. 1999; 2008a; Molina et al. 2004; Ávila-Pires et al. 2010; Waldez et al. 2013). It is frequently found within 5 meters of water, in river forest, usually at heights varying between a few centimeters above water to about 2.5 meters high, and when disturbed it frequently jumps into water ( Howland et al. 1990). The same authors reported some specimens on rocks, on floating logs, and on the ground near water. Uranoscodon superciliosus has the ability to run over the water for short distances ( Hoogmoed 1973; Howland et al. 1990).
