Family Hydrobiidae Stimpson, 1865 View in CoL
Anistratenko et al. 2019 suggested grouping the Ponto-Caspian hydrobiids into 3 subfamilies: Caspiinae , Hydrobiinae, and Pyrgulinae (see also Neubauer et al. 2018). The Ponto-Caspian Pyrgulinae are morphologically distinct from those inhabiting northern Italy and the Balkans ( Wilke et al. 2007, 2013; Anistratenko 2008). Based on this disparity it was proposed to group the former in their own tribe, Turricaspiini B. Dybowski, 1913 (type genus Turricaspia with type species Micromelania turricula Clessin & W. Dybowski in W. Dybowski, 1887, subsequently designated by Wenz 1939: 595) ( Anistratenko et al. 2019).
