Pseudovermilia multispinosa View in CoL .— Bastida-Zavala and Salazar-Vallejo, 2001: 820, figs. 8l–q, Mexican Caribbean and Cuba.

Diagnosis. Tube white, with longitudinal ridge forming shallow denticulate crest, 2–3 alveoli rows on each side of tube. Opercular peduncle smooth, white. Operculum with fleshy, bulbous part and distal, black horny cap; the latter is, generally, stem with irregularly branched end, bearing several lateral spines ( Fig. 9G); however, other specimens have operculum with small distal spines (form “inarmata”). Thoracic membrane short, extends to second thoracic chaetiger. Collar with hooded (limbate) chaetae, with bundles of few chaetae. Thorax with “ Apomatus ” chaetae occurring from second chaetiger onwards. Thoracic uncini with anterior bifurcate tooth.

Habitat. Depth: intertidal to 10–100 m. On corals and rocks. Some records (cf. ten Hove 1975) as fouling species.

Distribution. Amphi-American. Caribbean Sea, Florida to Southern Brazil; Gulf of Panama ( Monro 1933; Bastida-Zavala & Salazar-Vallejo 2001).

Taxonomic remarks. Monro (1933) described this species as Crosslandiella multispinosa and a subspecies C. multispinosa inarmata , both now included in P. multispinosa (cf. ten Hove 1975). Ten Hove (1975) and Bastida-Zavala and Salazar-Vallejo (2001) recorded Caribbean specimens of P. multispinosa with opercula formed by a middle almost arborescent spine.
