Odynerus (Rygchium) osborni Bequaert 1918: 135 View in CoL (key), 141, 307 (catalogue), figs. 131–133, pl. 1 fig. 4, ♀ —“ Belgian Congo.— Walikale ” (holotype AMNH).
Diagnosis. This species can be recognized by: smaller size, coloration black with red markings on head and mesosoma and pairs of yellow spots on propodeum and metasomal terga, dorsal faces of propodeum with impunctate area, inferior carina produced in a black lamella which is regular below and denticulate dorsally, propodeal valvula with short rectangular lobe, mid femur of male simple, female vertex with foveae placed in a weakly flattened small area which is not clearly distinct from the rest of the surface.
Typical material examined. Holotype of Odynerus osborni : “Waalikale / Belg. Cgo. / Jan. 1915. // TYPE [red label] // Am. Mus. Nat. Hist. / Dept. Invert. Zool. / No. 244452 // Odynerus / osborni / n. sp. / ♀ type / J. Beq. // [barcode] / AMNH IZC 00331888” ♀ ( AMNH).
Description. FEMALE. Fore wing length 11.0– 13.5 mm.
Head 1.25 × as wide as long in frontal view. Clypeus in lateral view barely convex in dorsal third, then flattened to the apex; in frontal view pyriform, 1.1× as long as wide, apical margin narrow and truncate, apical corners bearing a couple of short longitudinal carinae delimiting a median depressed part. Interantennal space sharply carinate. Distance from posterior ocellus to occipital carina 2 × as long as the distance from posterior ocellus to inner eye margin; foveae placed in a barely indicated shallow depression. Gena 0.9 × as wide as eye at bottom of ocular sinus; occipital carina fine dorsally, strong and shortly lamellate on sides. Scape 4 × as long as apically wide; F1 1.9 × as long as wide; F2–F4 weakly longer than wide; F5–F9 subquadrate; F10 bullet shaped. Pronotal carina complete, shortly lamellate dorsally; pretegular carina distinct but fine, anteriorly margined by a furrow. Mesoscutum 0.85 × as long as wide between tegulae, weakly and evenly convex in lateral view. Scutellum nearly flattened on disc, weakly transversely convex. Metanotum in lateral view strongly convex, not angled and therefore without distinct faces. Tegula elongate and narrow, outer margin barely convex, posterior lobe subtriangular and apically rounded, not reaching apex of parategula. Parategula large and flattened, evenly rounded from base to apex. Mesepisternum strongly convex, epicnemial carina complete and strong, reflexed in ventral half. Propodeum in lateral view evenly convex; posterior face broadly and shallowly depressed; dorsal face weakly convex; lateral face weakly depressed posteriorly; dorsal carinae irregular and little developed, weakly separating dorsal and posterior faces; inferior carina produced in a black lamella, which is entire and regular ventrally and denticolate dorsally. T 1 in dorsal view 0.6 × as long as wide, parallel-sided, in lateral view strongly convex at transition form vertical face to horizontal one; T 2 in dorsal view about as long as wide, in lateral view barely convex; S 2 in lateral view evenly convex from base to apex.
Head with flat bottomed punctures, denser and shallow on frons, becoming sparser and deeper on vertex and gena, where the interspaces are very broad and shiny; interantennal space and lower half of ocular sinus smooth and shiny. Clypeus with large oblique irregular punctures in the middle, sides with dense smaller punctures, apical depression unpunctured, interspaces micreoreticolate. Pronotum, mesoscutum, scutellum and metanotum with dense deep punctures, interspaces narrower than punctures diameter and forming a reticulation. Mesepisternum with large flat bottomed punctures, denser on dorsal plate where they are arranged in irregular series, sparser below; posterior margin and epicnemium microreticulate and dull. Metaepisternum densely microreticulate, weakly shining dorsally, dull ventrally. Dorsal faces of propodeum anteriorly smooth and glossy, posteriorly with dense deep punctures; posterior face with irregular oblique striae; lateral faces irregularly sculpted, with shallow oblique punctures and fine striae. T1–T5 densely microreticulate and dull, with oblique punctures, deeper on T1–T2 and becoming shallower on following terga, interspaces variable in size, from half to three times as punctures diameter; T6 densely micropunctate and wekly shiny, with some very sparse macropunctures. Narrow basal part of S1 shiny with some transverse striae, enlarged apical part irregularly rugose; S2–S5 similar to respective terga, but tegument shiny and micropunctate, punctures deeper and sparser; S6 with very dense fine punctures. Frons with dark brown long setae; upperside of mesosoma with short blackish pubescence; head and mesosoma with brownish-golden setae of various length; metasoma with very short blackish pubescence, longer on sterna, and golden setae, very short and sparse on terga, denser and longer on sterna.
Black; following parts ferruginous-red: clypeus, apical third of mandible, antenna with infuscate dorsal side, postocular line on dorsal half of gena, dorsal face of pronotum, almost whole mesepisternum, tegula, legs; following parts bright yellow: transverse spot above interantennal space, parategula, large patch on dorsal faces of propodeum, large circular spots on sides of T1–T5. Wings fuscous-hyaline, with weak purplish and bronzy reflections.
