Discussion: Although the specific name is based on the gouazoubira of Azara, the original spelling was " gouazoupira " not " gouazoubira ". The latter has been conserved as the correct original spelling (Opinion 1985; International Commission on Zoological Nomenclature, 2001 b). Cabrera (1961) and Czernay (1987) included rondoni in superciliaris; Duarte (1996) and Duarte and Merino (1997) listed it as a separate species, based on an anomalous karyotype; Pinder and Leeuwenberg (1997) listed it as a subspecies, and provisionally also listed namby as valid.
