Parorthocladius Thienemann, 1935 View in CoL

Our records of Parorthocladius lazovskiensis Makarchenko & Makarchenko, 2015 are based on adult males collected in a drift net in late July from the South Fork of Chester Creek on Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson near Anchorage ( Fig. 11A View FIGURE 11 ) and from a drift net in a Yukon River distributary in the delta area in early July. This is a new faunistic record for the Nearctic. Parorthocladius larvae have been reported from streams in Denali National Park ( Brabets & Ourso 2013), tributaries to the Mulchatna and Stuyahok Rivers in Southwest Alaska, and a tributary to Geikie Inlet in Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve ( Arctos 2023). We have collected larva from Bodenburg Creek southeast of Palmer and from Meadow Creek in Eagle River. The larvae in the genus are typically found in small streams, including springs and shallow bodies of still water (Andersen et al. 2013), with our Yukon River site being an outlier. However, since the males were collected in a drift net, they may have floated in from nearby tributaries.
