Pseudokiefferiella Zavřel, 1941 View in CoL
There is one described Holarctic species, Pseudokiefferiella parva (Edwards, 1932) , and several undescribed species known typically from high elevations and latitudes. Oliver & Dillon (1997) found an undescribed adult and pupae from a small stream seepage zone west of Trout Lake, Yukon. Makarchenko (Per. Com.) describes two new Palaearctic species based on adults and pupae. Since all our collections are larvae, we listed our records only to genus. However, habitat variation at collection sites suggests more than one species. Collection sites varied from high elevation, high gradient streams with small waterfalls and cascades to isolated seeps. Tilley (1978) recorded this genus from two Arctic streams in the Brooks Range, and Sikes et al. (2016) from a small pond on St. Matthew Island. There is a record in Arctos from a subalpine tributary to the Sanctuary River in Denali National Park. We collected Pseudokiefferiella larval specimens from an Eva Lake tributary on Chichagof Island; a high-gradient, subalpine stream on Baranof Island; and a seep near Nugget Falls on Gold Creek, a small stream on Lena Point, Turner Creek, and a rock pool in the Jensen-Olson Arboretum in the Juneau area. We have also collected them from a small tributary to Six Mile Lake above Nondalton, 123 m elevation, 4–6% slope. This was a shady, very small (width <1m) step-pool stream, dominated by gravel and sand substrate.
