Type data: This species was described based on males collected in Pernambuco state, northeastern Brazil. Moure & Seabra (1962) mentioned that the type of this species was housed at NHMUK, providing information on the data label. Moure & Seabra’s interpretation can be treated as a valid lectotype designation, according to Article 74.6 of the ICZN (1999). The specimen designated has the following data label: Type H. T. [red-rimmed circular label, printed]\ B.M. TYPE HYM. [printed] 17B.900. [handwritten]\ [circular label] 45 50 [handwritten]\ Centris decorata Type. Smith. [handwritten]\ decorata Sm. Type [handwritten]\ B4 [handwritten]. The type specimen has the left foreleg and flagellum missing.

Type locality: Brazil: Pernambuco state .

Comments: Silveira et al. (2002) did not include C. decorata in the list of Brazilian species of Centris (Ptilotopus) . Moure et al. (2007) interpreted correctly the identity of this species.
