Type Locality: Mexico, Veracruz, Xuchil, SE side of Mt. Orizaba.
Vernacular Names: Big Pocket Gopher.
Distribution: Known only from the type locality.
Conservation: IUCN – Lower Risk (lc).
Discussion: Subgenus Heterogeomys . May be conspecific with hispidus ( Hall, 1981:512) .
