Diopogon stramineus View in CoL Jordan & Fourreau (1868a: 47–48)

Lectotype (designated here):— ROMANIA. “ Diopogon stramineus J. et F., Sempervivum Heuffelii Schott de Hongrie, M. Verlot 1863, 217 sin, 73 pot 1 (2 pots), inf. 16 Août 1866.” Jordan s.n. ( LY!, Herbarium Jordan, the upper specimen). Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 .

Notes:—The description of Diopogon stramineus was based on a cultivated plant received from the garden „ hortus botanicus wibercensis “ with the name Sempervivum heuffelii Schott. The protologue states only that the species occurs in Hungary ( Jordan & Fourreau 1868a: 47); additionally an illustration of the species was published in the Icones ad floram Europae ( Jordan & Fourreau 1868b: pl. 193) and can be considered as original material. The main herbarium of Alexis Jordan (1814–1897) is stored at LY (Stafleau & Cowan 1979: 460). The specimen selected as type, was collected by M. Verlot in the Southern Carpathian part of the former, historical Hungary, currently in Romania. This plant material was collected in 1863 and cultivated for three years in Jordanʼs botanical garden in Lyon. Hence, we assume that this cultivated material was the basis for the description of Diopogon stramineus . The numbers on the label most probably refer to an area in the botanical garden or to a collection number. The upper specimen of the two on the sheet is here designated as lectotype of D. stramineus .
