Type species: Corynoptera camptochaeta Tuomikoski, 1960 .
Literature: Hippa & Vilkamaa (1994): 1‒85; Menzel & Mohrig (2000): 192‒199; Komarova et al. (2007): 1‒9; Rudzinski (2008): 321‒360; Vilkamaa et al. (2011): 69‒75; Vilkamaa et al. (2013): 476‒488; Xu et al. (2015): 315–327.
Diagnostic characters. Camptochaeta can be identified by the presence of an apical tooth on the gonostylus and by having the attachment of the flexor muscle of the gonostylus shaped as an inverted Y. The genus is characterized by 3-segmented palpus, basal segment with one (rarely two) bristles and a more or less distinct deep sensory pit; scutum with long dorsocentral, prescutellar und a few lateral bristles; scutellum with two long marginal bristles; posterior pronotum bare, wings pale, R1 rather long, posterior veins without macrotrichia; haltere short, legs long, tibial organ bordered, mostly distinct horseshoe-like; tibia spurs longer than the diameter of the tibial apex, claws are toothless; hypopygium without intergonocoxal lobe or bristle patches; gonostylus of different shape, but always with a distinct apical tooth (mostly with a pale basal area), a different number of spines and one or more flagellar bristles (whiplash-like) on the inner side.
