Atelids include the largest species of New World primates, all of which are prehensiletailed inhabitants of the primary forest canopy. Four genera are currently recognized, of which three ( Alouatta , Ateles , Lagothrix ), each represented by a single species, occur in the Yavarí-Ucayali interfluve.
