Type Locality: " Madagascar ".
Vernacular Names: Brown-tailed Mongoose.
Synonyms: Salanoia olivacea (I. Geoffroy Saint-Hilaire 1839) ; Salanoia unicolor (I. Geoffroy Saint-Hilaire 1837) .
Distribution: Endemic to Madagascar.
Conservation: IUCN – Vulnerable.
Discussion: Geoffroy Saint-Hilaire (1839) noted that his first listed species name, unicolor , was a typographical error and should have been concolor ( Coetzee, 1977 b:35) .
