Material examined.
Holotype: male, Philippines, Balawan , Mt. St. Paul , Babuyan, Cayasan, 5–6.iv.1995, leg. W. Mey, genit. prep. 3298 M. Fibiger. Coll. ZMHB.
Diagnosis.
Wingspan: 10 mm.
Forewing: narrow, light brown in medial and anterior part of subterminal areas, other areas of forewing blackish brown.
Transverse lines: brown; terminal line marked by black dots between veins.
Reniform: distinct, whitish grey, outlined by black.
Fringes: coloured like terminal area.
Hindwing: unicolorous grey brown with an indistinct black discal spot.
Underside: unicolorous grey brown.
Male genitalia.
Tegumen: narrow.
Vinculum: short, stout.
Saccus: U-shaped, short.
Fultura superior: Y-shaped with long narrow arms, fused medially with tegumen and ventrally fused broadly with juxta-anellus plate; from middle a single, very long, narrow, S-shaped, ventrally directed process arises.
Valve: shorter than wide.
Ampulla: almost symmetrical; long, very narrow, club-like; subapically densely setose with long, hair-like, inwardly bent setae.
Pollex : relatively short, finger-like on right side; left pollex broad medially, then tapered towards tip; both sides subapically densely setose with long, hair-like, inwardly bent setae.
Digitus: huge on right side, strongly curving ventrally, bifurcate towards apex; left ampulla short, apically pointed.
Juxta-anellus plate: higher than wide, hole for phallus positioned medially.
Phallus: long, curved, slightly tapered towards apex; coecum short and narrow.
Vesica: unarmed.
Differential diagnosis.
P. diabolo differs from other species by the long S-shaped process from the fultura superior, the strongly asymmetrical digitus, which is bifurcate, the right ampulla, which is club-like, and the pollex, which is medially broader on the left side.
