Pollex (Bilobiana) sansdigit View in CoL Fibiger, new species

( Plate 9 View PLATE 9 , figure 3; male genit. plate 19, figure 3)

Material examined.

Holotype: male, Philippines, Mindanao , Mt. Apo School, 15 km SW Dawao, 500 m, 22-31.x.1965, leg. D. Davis, genit. prep. 5686 M. Fibiger. Coll. USNM.

Diagnosis.

Wingspan: 12 mm.

Forewing: relatively broad, dark brown.

Transverse lines: indistinct, black; terminal line marked by black dots between veins.

Reniform: distinct, round, whitish grey, outlined by black.

Fringes: coloured like subterminal area.

Hindwing: very small, unicolorous dark brown, without a discal spot; ventral part of the hindwing transformed to a long log-like cylindrical tube (see species-group discussion above).

Male hindleg: covered with prominent, long, black, hair-like scales forming scent brush.

Underside: unicolorous dark brown.

Male genitalia.

Tegumen: narrow.

Vinculum: short, stout.

Saccus: U-shaped, short.

Fultura superior: T-shaped, broad, fused with upper middle part of tegument, ventrally fused broadly with juxta-anellus plate; each horizontal arm with a prominent, stout, apically blunt, ventrally directed process.

Valve: shorter than wide.

Ampulla: almost symmetrical; throughout its length totally fused with digitus; slightly broader subapically; densely setose with long, hair-like, inwardly bent setae.

Pollex : almost symmetrical; basal part broad, longer than ampulla; with a small dorsal spine subapically, and with inwardly directed setae.

Digitus: structure only apparently absent because digitus almost completely fused with ampulla; however, dorsal unscaled part and a tiny free tip on right side reveal presence of digitus.

Juxta-anellus plate: large, higher than wide, hole for phallus positioned medially in plate.

Phallus: long, bent, slightly tapered from middle part towards apex; broadest by ductus ejaculatorius; coecum short and narrow.

Vesica: unarmed.

Differential diagnosis.

P. sansdigit differs from P. hamus by the almost completely fused ampulla-digitus, the process from fultura superior, the dorsal spine on the pollex, and the medially broad phallus.
