Pollex (Bilobiana) dumogai Fibiger, new species

( Plate 10 View PLATE 10 , figure 3; male genit. plate17, figure 2; female genit. plate 25, figure 6)

Material examined.

Holotype: male, Indonesia, Sulawesi N, Dumoga Bone National Park , 10.vi.1985, genit. prep. 4459 M. Fibiger. Coll. BMNH.

Paratypes: 2 males, 1 female with same data as holotype but 13–14.vi.1985, genit. prep.: males 4460, 4461, female 4467, colls BMNH and MF .

Taxonomic note. The systematic position of P. dumogai is dubious; the long arms of fultura superior, the ampulla, the pollex, the phallus, and vesica cornutus indicate a position close to P. kangeani , basal in the genus; however, the phallus is as bent as that of P. utarai , but the fultura superior does not support a close relationship, nor does the dorsal and basal small elevation on the digitus, which is unique, but probably the most important character, that places the species in a much more derived position, is the huge, bent, heavily sclerotised antrum.

Diagnosis.

Wingspan: 10–12 mm.

Forewing: narrow, light brown.

Transverse lines: brown; terminal line marked by black dots between veins.

Reniform: distinct, whitish grey, outlined by black.

Fringes: coloured like terminal area.

Hindwing: unicolorous grey brown with an indistinct black discal spot.

Underside: unicolorous grey brown.

Male genitalia.

Tegumen: narrow.

Vinculum: short, stout.

Saccus: V-shaped, short.

Fultura superior: Y-shaped with long narrow arms, fused medially with tegumen and ventrally with juxtaanellus plate.

Valve: shorter than wide.

Ampulla: long, club-like, broadest subapically; densely setose with long, hair-like, inwardly bent setae. Pollex : short, broadest medially; outwards tapering; densely setose with long, hair-like, inwardly bent setae. Digitus: large, tapered, curved, directed ventrally, apically pointed; a raised setose ridge subbasally on dorsal side.

Juxta-anellus plate: round, slightly higher than wide.

Phallus: relatively short, bent at 2/3; coecum short and broad.

Vesica: with a prominent, curved, spine-like cornutus.

Female genitalia.

7 th abdominal segment: heavily sclerotised; asymmetrical.

Anterior apophyses: length 1½ of posterior apophyses.

Position of ostium bursae: posteriorly on 7 th segment, close to 8 th segment, slightly displaced to left.

Antrum: huge; basally broad; strongly curved; heavily sclerotised.

Ductus bursae: membranous, long, 2½ X longer than corpus bursae.

Corpus bursae: globular.

Appendix bursae: arising anteriorly from ductus bursae immediately after antrum.

Differential diagnosis.

P. dumogai differs from other species by the raised setose ridge subbasally on the digitus, and the huge, curved, heavily sclerotised antrum.
