Tolpia knudlarseni Fibiger, new species
( Plate 4 View PLATE 4 , figure 1; male genit. plate 14, figure 6, female genit. plate 22, figure 8)
Material examined.
Holotype: male, Indonesia, Sumatra North, 28 km S Pematang Siantar, near Tigadoluk , 1050 m, 02° 45’52” N 99°58’20” E, 4.iii.2002, leg., and genit. prep. 4524 M. Fibiger. Coll. MF, to be deposited in ZMUC. GoogleMaps
Paratypes: 1 male, 2 females: same data as holotype except date for females, 28.ii.2002 and 10.ii.2002, genit. preps 4525 and 4526 M. Fibiger. Coll. MF GoogleMaps .
Diagnosis.
Wingspan: 14–16 mm.
Transverse lines: brown, indistinct; basal, antemedial, postmedial, and subterminal lines well marked by a black spot by costa; terminal line marked by black elongated dots.
Reniform: elongated, brown.
Hindwing: brown.
Underside: unicolorous brown.
Abdomen: brown with long anal tuft.
Male genitalia.
Saccus: short, slightly pointed.
Vinculum: short.
Tegumen: long.
Tergite and sternite: indistinct.
Costa: almost straight.
Sacculus: narrow, inconspicuous.
Editum: long, finger-like, apically setose.
Ampulla: slightly asymmetrical; sickle-like, apically smoothly rounded.
Pollex : relatively small and apically rounded, with long hair-like setae.
Digitus: symmetrical; very long, narrow, curved, pointed apically.
Juxta: higher than wide, left side more extended dorsally.
Phallus: extremely long and extremely narrow, broadest by ductus ejaculatorius, slightly tapered, smoothly coiling clock-wise 2/3 from base; coecum relatively short and rounded.
Female genitalia.
Ovipositor: quadrangular.
Anterior apophyses: length equal to that of posterior apophyses.
8 th abdominal segment: very narrow, ventrally fused to 7 th segment.
7 th abdominal segment: heavily sclerotised; position of ostium posterior on segment; lateral anterior margins with heavily sclerotised humps (probably a feature serving mating).
6 th segment: posterior part heavily sclerotised, fused with 7 th segment; anterior part of 6 th segment less heavily sclerotised – similar to rest of abdomen.
Antrum: relatively long and large, tapered, coiling, heavily sclerotised, 5 X longer that wide; base of antrum with a prominent, apically pointed pouch, equally sclerotised as antrum.
Ductus bursae: membranous, 2½ X as long as corpus bursae.
Corpus bursae: globular.
Differential diagnosis.
The male genitalia of T. knudlarseni are somewhat similar to those of T. crispus , but differ by the longer editum and the less asymmetrical digitus. The shape of the antrum of the female genitalia is unique.
