Pachycoris ruth Breddin 1903b: 366 ; Schouteden 1904b: 49 (listed); Bergroth 1908: 141 (listed); Kirkaldy 1909: 286 (listed); Gaedike 1971: 98 (lectotype and paralectotype designated). NEW COMBINATION.

Description. Dorsum orangetoredexceptfollowing black structures: head; coria;connexiva; broad band along anterolateralandanteriormargins of pronotum; broad,mesial,longitudinalband on pronotum; narrow bandonposteriorandposterolateral pronotal margins;lanceolateprojection extending Va to % 0 distance from posterior to anterior margins of colored areaonpronotum; sinuous band on anteriormarginofscutellum; small, oblong macule nearapexofscutellum, thisusually connected to anterior marginbythin, mesialline. Dorsal punctation moderatelydense,concolorous in black areas, concoloroustoslightlydarkerthan surrounding surfacein orangetoredareas.Venter black except thin marginallineonabdomenand basal Ms of rostrum pale yellow. Length 9.5 - 10.8.

Head broadly rounded anteriorly, relativelyshort; length 2.1-2.3, width acrosseyes2.9 -3.1. Length of antennal segments 1-5: 0.6;0.6;0.6-0.7; 1.1 - 1.3; 1.3-1.5. Rostrum reachingorslightlysurpassing anterior margin of2ndvisibleabdominalsternite.

Pronotum 3.0-3.4 long atmeson,6.3-6.6 wide across humeri. Anterolateralmarginsconvex,distinctly carinate, carina frequently pale.Coxae slightly lighter than supportingpleura,remainder of legs uniformly black.

Scutellum 6.2-6.7 long atmeson,6.0 -6.3 broad at widest point.

Posterior margin of genitalcupwithshallow, mesial emargination ( Fig. 110and111), View Fig convex laterally in dorsal view. Head of parameres elongate, inner surface shagreened ( Fig. 112 View Fig ). Sclerotized apices of 2nd conjunctival diverticula large, stout, acute apically ( Fig. 113 View Fig ). Sclerotized apices of 3rd conjunctival diverticula thin, elongate, acute apically ( Fig. 114 View Fig ).

Type Material. The lectotype and paralectotype of Pachycoris ruth , designated by Gaedike (1971), are both males in DEI and were examined.

Distribution. Peru, Bolivia.

Comment. The dorsal coloration of this species is distinctive and is apparently relatively consistent. It is the largest species of the P. fenestra group. The simple proctiger places this species in Polytes rather than Pachycoris .
