Type Locality: Madagascar.
Vernacular Names: Red-collared Lemur.
Synonyms: Eulemur melanocephala (Gray 1863) ; Eulemur xanthomystax (Gray 1863) .
Distribution: Madagascar: from Mananara River south to near Tolagnaro.
Conservation: CITES – Appendix I; U.S. ESA – Endangered; IUCN – Vulnerable as E. fulvus collaris .
Discussion: Regarded as a distinct species by Groves (2001 c).
