Alpheus laevis Randall, 1840: 141 View in CoL ; De Man, 1888a: 499; De Man, 1902: 861.
Material examined. PG: 1 male ( ZUTC 6673 ) Hormuz I., on dead corals, Coll. A. Dehghani, 10 May 2016 ; GO: 2 males, 2 females ( ZUTC 6649 ), Chabahar Bay , Tis, on dead corals, Coll. A. Dehghani and H. Ashrafi, 2 Oct. 2016 .
Distribution: Indo-Pacific: South Africa, Red Sea, PG, GO, Japan, Australia, Hawaii, French Polynesia, Rapa Nui, Panama and Galapagos.
Regional records. PG: Iran ( Banner & Banner, 1981; present study); GO: Oman ( Hogarth, 1989), Iran (present study).
Habitat. This species is an obligate associate of the hard corals Pocillopora and Seriatopora ( Anker & De Grave, 2016) . All material was collected from crevices in Pocillopora from lower intertidal to at least 3 m deep.
Remarks. Alpheus lottini is also a problematic species complex and Williams et al. (2001, 2002) showed a genetic separation between the Indo-West Pacific and East Pacific populations. The two male individuals collected here agree well with the description and illustrations provided in Banner & Banner (1982) for Australian material. A literature based comparison of morphological descriptions and color patterns between material collected from the PG and GO with those from Singapore ( Anker & De Grave, 2016) unexpectedly resulted in observation of no general morphological differences.
