Type Locality: Colombia, valley of Rio Magdalena, La Gloria.
Vernacular Names: Brown Spider Monkey.
Synonyms: Ateles albifrons Gray 1870 ; Ateles brunneus Gray 1870 ; Ateles loysi (Montandon 1929) .
Distribution: N Colombia and NW Venezuela.
Conservation: CITES – Appendix II; IUCN – Endangered as A. h. hybridus and A. h. brunneus .
Discussion: Separated from belzebuth by Froehlich et al. (1991). Rylands et al. (2000) recognized brunneus as a subspecies.
