Solasteridae with one series of well developed marginal paxillae, the superomarginals always markedly smaller than inferomarginals; abactinal skeleton of cruciform or stellate plate, either closely placed or forming by means of slender intermediate ossicles, an open meshwork. Abactinal pseudopaxillae spaced or crowded, small to large, fascicular, tabulate, or penicillate. Actinal intermediate plates extending more or less along the ray. Rays more than five. Type: Asterias endeca Linnaeus, 1771 (by original designation).
